GLITCHSLAP

Manifesto

Somewhere right now, a man in a black polo neck is calling an empty room "an interrogation of absence." We are not with him.

  1. Art is not a library.

Talk. Laugh. Swear if it's earned it. If a gallery needs you whispering, it's hiding something.

  2. The glitch is the point.

The bug, the tear, the corrupted file, the line that went wrong. That's where the human gets in. Perfect is for printers.

  3. Kill the press release.

If it takes 400 words to explain, it isn't hitting. No "liminal". No "interrogates". No "the artist's practice". Say what it is, then shut up.

  4. No gatekeepers.

No degree required. No dinner-party connections. No paying to be ignored. The work gets in on the work.

  5. Screen and street are the same wall.

A phone at 2am counts. A warehouse in the rain counts. Pixels, paint, code, cardboard. Same fight.

  6. Hit first, explain never.

We don't care what it sold for, who bought it or who your agent is. One question: does it hit?

  7. Weird wins.

Too loud. Too broken. Too much. Good. Polite art is wallpaper.

  8. Artists own their art.

Credit every time. Copyright stays with the person who made it. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.

  9. Laugh at the temple.

Pretension is the enemy, not people. We'll take the mick out of the white cube all day. Never out of someone making something honest.

  10. Break it. Then frame it.

Don't fix it. Don't smooth it. Don't apologise for it. Hang it up and turn the lights on.

Long live
the glitch.

Your screen is not broken. The art just hits that hard.
